Prats & Symington

Douro Chryseia 2011

Cases Made

The Chryseia project began in 1998, when the Symington family partnered with former Château Cos-d’Estournel owner Bruno Prats to produce a top-quality Douro table wine. The 2011 Chryseia is their highest-scoring version yet, balancing finesse and power in the best vintage in a generation for this region. The wine is a blend of two indigenous varieties, Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca, sourced from the vineyards of Quinta de Roriz and Quinta da Perdiz, and is aged in 100 percent new French oak barrels.

Quinta de Roriz is one of two estates that provide grapes for the dry red Chryseia.

Bruno Prats worked with winemaker Charles Symington to bring Bordeaux techniques to the Douro.

Tasting Note:

An elegant and monolithic red, pure and powerful, with hints of lushness to the concentrated red plum, raspberry and dark currant flavors. This is filled with black olive and baker’s chocolate notes, backed up by grippy tannins. Finishes with refined accents of slate and white pepper. Best from 2016 through 2022. –Kim Marcus
